May 8th, I woke up to see Shannon’s Sunny Bohemian shoot featured on the photography blog, Lemonade and Lenses! I absolutely love this publication and I was extremely pleased to have the studio and my images featured on such a fresh and captivating blog! This is our first feature, and I’m stoked it is at Lemonade and Lenses! J’adore.
Hello Weekend! So, i’ve been so thrilled to have been able to GO GREEN with the studio. I wanted to find great curated goods to represent the studio and my work. I love our high end natural albums and fine art cotton prints + canvas prints by Lotkah, Mounting by Plywerk, our fabulous correspondents by Simple Song Design, and our organic packaging! I did a {brand reveal post} that is all about our brand + earth inspired goods. We have also cut down on our office paper + printing by 90% by using incredible apps for savvy studios and emailing our receipts + contracts. Naturally, I’ve also been keeping an eye out for some of the most unique natural/organic products for everything else you could imagine. I have to admit, I love whole foods and the entire organic culture, so with the help of pinterest and shopping obsessively at stores like Anthropologie and Terrain, I’ve found some incredible organic goods that I had to share. They can be found on my Pinterest, and below are a few that I used and that I REALLY want to try.
1. Terrarium Necklace 2. Rahua Conditioner (J’adore! My hair is SILK.) 3. Sydney Hale Natural Soy Agave + Honeysuckle Candle
4.Belmodo Skincare Giftset (Anthro Find, Love.) 5. Hacoa Wooden Iphone Case 6. Pure & Good Ginger Mandarin Hand soap (Fave!)
All the other finds can be seen on my {Pinterest}!

This week I have been getting into the deeper stuff, Artistic Integrity, and now the Photographic Relationship. This is what I consider, my relationship with you, the client. My photography is very specific, and because it is so specific and so conceptually detailed, It is impossible to be everyones dream photographer. I’m an artist – my work is a reflection of me, all of the things I adore, I work into my art. My vision can’t reflect every client, and so I say this, to just clarify that I am not everyones photographer, and that is okay. I want my vision to be everything my client loves. A profile of my client would look something like this – My client more than likely LOVES art, they don’t mind waiting a few weeks for their photographs because they know I am taking every single detail to heart, and there is no such thing as a “cookie cutter” image to me – but each one is carefully considered, edited with processes I have built over the years, and will certainly won’t resemble anyone else’s photograph. My client also won’t mind investing more, because they will understand that {this is art}. It’s the difference of going to buy artwork from a curated gallery, verses target. (No offense to target!) The photographic relationship is a beautiful art form. It is me, understanding your personal style + personality, and you understanding my vision, and creative processes – then the adaptation of these elements, to create an authentic and beautiful narrative of you, at this season of your life. It is a collaboration between us, and with all of my clients, this new, amazing friendship. I am so glad to say, I have so many friends who were clients before our meeting, and we understand each other on a much deeper level because the common strand is, that we love and appreciate art. If there is any doubt that a client is not right for my studio, 9 times out of 10 it is because they do not appreciate fine art or the creative process. They are just looking for pictures, and as strange as this may sound, I don’t take pictures. I am an artist that uses the medium of photography. Everyone can’t be expected to be as passionate about art as others. Yet I have to consider, that the work and practices of my studio will resonate with few, and won’t with many because it is VERY specific. It also allows me to truly be creative, different, and a photographer to few.
All of this deep thinking makes me want coffee, and to listen to Toro Y Moi.
Ciao!

Yesterday, my status on Facebook was about ARTISTIC INTEGRITY. Unless you are an art major, you may have never heard the term. It is the ability to be completely dedicated to your artistic vision and values. For me as an artist, I am learning to surrender to my artistic integrity with abandon. My style is all my own, and I don’t want to be like any other photographer, or artist in my market. I don’t find the beauty in comparing myself or copying. It’s the artistic integrity I own myself. This goes for my values as a photographer. There are certain shoots I absolutely will not commit to, I am also very careful to not take on too many free shoots, simply because it goes against my value as a photographer. As entrepreneurs, artistic integrity tends to take a backseat, however I am finding the more I stay true to my artistic integrity, the more I understand myself as an entrepreneur, as well as an artist. I decided to feature my fine art work on my studio website, and I’m really excited to share this part of my work with all of you. I have always had two websites, one for my fashion/portrait work and one for my fine art. I realized it all goes together and should stay together, to show my diversity as a photographer, and also my soul as an artist.

Second feature of my {REWIND} post this week! This Retro Chic mini shoot is one of my favorites from 2011! My friend Rachel { Editor at Viral Fashion,} graced my camera this cold winter morning in December. We decided to do a quick mini shoot together, and her retro chic look had heads turning in Valley Stream. I wanted to play up her edgy/femme look so I shot all in black and white, vintage tones, and high contrast. I love Mini Shoots for the reason that, not only are they a blast, but they are a commentary of the talent from the individual in front of the camera {Rachel Nailed EVERY shot.} and a challenge for me as the photographer to get that amazing shot in a short amount of time. I love the rush, and in my experience, those are the shoots that really stand out.
